Now or Later
There are two kinds of people in this world. Let’s call them the ‘now’ types and the ‘later’ types. Go through the following checklist and decide which type are you?
‘Now’ people
• They are always drawn towards fun activities.
• They want variety in their life, right now.
• They look for immediate gratification in whatever they do.
• Their actions are driven by pleasure.
• Given a choice they always take the easy way.
• They end up spending a lot of time and resources on entertainment, television, food, shopping and mindless activities.
• They get unnerved by uncertainty.
• They delay doing uninteresting or un-pleasurable tasks.
• Their thoughts, words and actions often don’t match.
• They say something and do something else.
• They believe in gratifying their senses.
• They make ‘short-term ‘goals.
• They usually believe in ‘me-first’.
• They prefer to stay in their comfort zone.
‘Later’ people
• They are driven by results instead of immediate gratification.
• They do not indulge in too many fun activities in the present.
• They invest time and resources in taking care of their health.
• They work extra hours to accomplish worthy goals.
• They read good, informative, uplifting books.
• They take extra training to keep themselves up-to-date with the latest in their chosen field.
• They always strive to improve their lives.
• They hang out with interesting and engaging people who help them stretch their thought process.
• They follow through all their actions.
• They take risks when required.
• They are comfortable with being uncomfortable.
• They are not deterred by uncertainty.
• Their thoughts, words and actions remain in alignment.
• They act while others preach.
• They take themselves and their deep desires seriously.
• They make ‘long-term’ goals.
• They possess integrity.
• They like to stretch beyond their limitations.
Which of these two groups do you identify with? Don’t be seduced by immediate pleasures of life. Success resides with those people who can forego gratification in the present moment, and perform actions which are necessary to achieve a worthy goal. Successful people act while others are busy having fun or just whiling away their time.
