Embrace your Imperfections

Most of us want to be ‘perfect’ in whatever we do. We lament the state of the world and feel bad about its imperfections. It is true that we do not live in a perfect world, but don’t you think it would be boring if all of us (including the world that we live in) were perfect!! Won’t we all look like robots, imitating one another? What about the merits of being an ‘individual’ as opposed to a perfect clone? The wonderful part of our world is our individuality, our uniqueness. Each of us has our own style, and personality. Our thoughts, desires, wants, dreams, aversions, likes, dislikes, successes, failures etc make us who we are. If we were all to become perfect, won’t we lose our own style which makes us special in the first place?

Oh, you don’t think your style is special, do you? Don’t you think that your personality, your core self, deep down to who you are as a soul is important? The problem is that when we look into a mirror, we tend to see our imperfections. We spot what we feel is less than perfect. The moment we do that we send out a signal to the world around us that we are not ‘good enough’ and in the process we lose our self-confidence. We forget that our imperfections represent our life experiences. We forget to see the gift in our circumstances. This failure affects our self-esteem like nothing else does.

Suppose instead of focussing on the negatives you were to see your uniqueness? Suppose you were to be proud of your imperfections; because they may seem far from ideal but they teach you the perfect lessons in your life?

Actress Lucile Ball said, “I have an everyday religion that works for me. Love yourself first and everything else falls into line.” This is another way of saying, ‘take care of yourself first, because then you will be able to give your best to yourself and to others.’ How many of us follow this golden rule?

Here are some tips to take care of yourself and your self-esteem:-

• Pray more often
